The
Center for Applied Ecology prepared a wetland bank development
and restoration plan for the Red Stone Farm in Pike County,
Ohio. Encompassing 480 acres, the bank will be used for
compensatory mitigation for unavoidable impacts to waters of the
United States. Wetland restoration activities include:
-
Enhancement and preservation of existing
forested and emergent wetlands
-
Restoration of forested and scrub-shrub/emergent wetlands
-
Restoration of forested wetlands on hydric soils and soils
with hydric inclusions
-
Preservation of nearly 100
acres of upland headwater buffers
With U.S. Army
Corps of Engineer’s approval, the first phase of construction is
expected to begin in fall 2006. The Center for Applied Ecology
will be responsible for restoration implementation, monitoring,
and reporting. The Center will also be marketing the wetland
credits to potential buyers. |
