Women's Professional
Women’s interview attire should consist of a quality,
well-fitted suit. Either pants or skirts are acceptable for the suit. A
variety of shirts are also acceptable to change the look of a basic neutral
colored suit (recommended colors: black, charcoal, navy, grey, beige or
brown). For winter a dressy turtleneck or light sweater are good options. For
year round, a button up, collared, white or slightly color contrasting blouse is
a good choice. Suit and shirt should always be clean and neatly pressed.
Shoes should be closed toe, polished, and professional
looking. They should have a heel comfortable to walk in and not too trendy.
Classic is a good rule of thumb for professional interviews. In the winter
time, a dressy boot is also an option, and is often a choice for young
professionals.
Business Casual for women:
Once you have landed the job and learn that your new
office/job has a career casual dress code, you have many options. A dress
trouser or skirt and sweater-set is always a welcome addition to the work
place. You can also pair a button-up blouse with a skirt and less formal
shoes. Twill pants or khakis are also acceptable at most companies that allow
casual dress. Pair these with a variety of shirts. Even for business casual,
clothes should not be revealing or ultra-trendy. Some companies allow mules or
slides but not sandals. Some companies may allow sandals, but check first.
Men's Professional
Men should purchase at least one quality, tailored suit.
Two would be preferable, one in a dark color and one in a lighter neutral shade.
Recommended colors: Black, Charcoal, Grey, Beige, Navy or Brown. A
dress shirt and tie should always accompany the suit. Have multiple shirts
in varying contrasting colors to change the look of the entire suit. Also,
have several high quality ties in order to change the look with minimal cost and
great ease.
Business Casual for men:
Business casual for men is pretty easy. Twill/khaki pants,
golf/polo shirts, or short or long sleeved button up shirts. In the winter
casual sweaters and/or vests are often an option. Shoes can vary from leather
boat shoes to penny loafers, but should always be polished and clean and worn
with socks. Some companies may allow sports sandals or sports shoes, but it is
best to check with your employer.
