Report #010383    JUN 1 2001-Friday-08:26am
Location: A.S.&T. BUILDING - TELEPHONE ROOM - ALARM-Intrusion Alarm
Dispo: Intrusion alarm was received from the listed location.  The area was checked and found to be
secured.  The cause of the alarm could not be determined.  The alarm was re-set and N.K.U. Physical
Plant personnel were advised reference a system check and repairs, if warranted.   Case closed....

Location: NKU WEST CAMPUS - WEST BUILDING - ALARM-Intrusion Alarm
Dispo: Intrusion Alarm was received from the above location.  D.P.S. Officer responded and found
the building was secure.  Upon entering the building, the Officer found the alarm panel showing a zone
#1 & #2 activation.  The Officer checked the interior and exterior of the building.  All O.K.  The alarm
was re-set and the officer returned to the main campus.  Case closed....

Dispo: Intrusion Alarm was received from the listed location. D.P.S. Officer responded and found
the area secure. Investigation determined that an Alarm Company Service Technician was testing
the alarm and accidentally set off the alarm.  Case closed....

Dispo: NO FIRE. Fire Alarm received from the listed location. The Central Campbell County Fire
department responded and along with DPS and Residential Life personnel checked the area finding
no evidence of smoke or fire. The alarm was reset, and the building was cleared for re-occupancy. All
units cleared the scene at 03:38pm.  Case closed....

Location: PARKING LOT K - THEFT-Theft By Unlawful Taking Under $300.
Dispo: Male subject advised that subject(s) unknown had broken the lock on the Coca-Cola Machine
at the listed location. Upon investigation, it was observed that the machine had pry marks on it and that
approximately 6 cases of 20 oz bottles had been taken. The incident is under investigation.  Case closed....

Location: DORMS-WOODCREST SYCAMORE - SECOND FLOOR - SMOKE-Smoke--Visible
Dispo: NO FIRE. Female advises that sparks and smoke came from the stove. Officer was advised
that a lightning strike had occurred causing a power surge that caused the stove to spark and smoke.
The Fire Alarm did not activate. Residents of the building were evacuated. The Central Campbell
County Fire Department responded and checked the area for electrical damage. Two (2) stoves were
found to have been damaged. NKU Power Plant personnel logged the damaged stoves for replacement. 
The building was ok'd for re-occupancy and the scene was cleared at 11:47pm.  Case closed....

Dispo: Female complainant stated that over the past months a suspect had taken photographs of her.
The complainant stated that she had given her consent to have the photo's taken.  On this occasion, the
suspect had allegedly touched her without her permission.  The Incident remains under Investigation....

Location: PARKING LOT Q - VEHICLE LEAKING FUEL-Vehicle Leaking Fuel
Dispo: Male student stated that a vehicle was leaking fuel at the listed location. The owner of the
vehicle was contacted. The Central Campbell County Fire Department responded and placed absorbent
material of the fuel. Upon investigation, it was determined that heat pressure force fuel out of the cap
that was improperly secured. The fuel cap was resecured and the absorbent material was cleaned up.
The scene was cleared and all units returned to 10-8 status at 06:10pm.  Case closed....

Location: UNIVERSITY CENTER - THEFT-Theft By Unlawful Taking Under $300
Dispo: Female subject advised that subject(s) unknown removed Two (2) Coca-Cola Barrels from the
listed location.  The barrels were discovered missing when the owner arrived to pick them up.  A check
of the area was conducted, with negative results.  The Incident remains under Investigation....

Location: ADMIN. SERVICE DRIVE - POSSIBLE SAFETY HAZARD
Dispo: University Employee reported that Two (2) Trash Dumpsters are causing a possible safety
hazard at the listed location.  The dumpsters are located between the entrances to the Administration,
University Center and BEP Buildings. The complainant stated that Emergency Vehicles would not be
able to reach the building entrances. The complaint was referred to the NKU Physical Plant for corrective
action.  Case closed....

Location: REGENTS HALL - MEDICAL RESPONSE-Medical Response-Squad
Dispo: N.K.U. Visitor reportedly having heart problems. Oxygen was administered by the responding
DPS Officer.  The Central Campbell County Squad responded and transported the subject to St. Elizabeth
Hospital South for treatment.  Case closed....

Location: DORMS-WOODCREST OAK - FIRST FLOOR - SAFETY HAZARD
Dispo: Male subject reported that a smoke detector had activated and water was coming from the
detector.  Upon arrival, Officer found that the leaking water had caused the detector to short-out.
The Central Campbell County Fire Department responded and checked the area and requested that the
resident vacate the room until repairs are made.  The source of the water leak could not be determined.
The resident was re-located to another room.  The NKU Electricians and Plumbers will be advised of the
incident.  Case closed

Dispo: NO FIRE. Fire Alarm received from the listed location. The Central Campbell County Fire
Department responded and along with DPS and the NKU Environmental Safety Officer checked the area
finding no evidence of smoke or fire.  Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was caused by
maintenance work on the system. The scene was cleared, and the building re-opened for occupancy,
at 09:05am.  Case closed....

Dispo: Female advised that she injured her ankle while descending the staircase at the listed location.
The N.K.U. Nurse responded to the scene and checked the subject.  The University Nurse believed
the subject needed to go to the hospital.  The subject consented to be transported.   The Central
Campbell County Squad responded and transported the subject to St. Luke Hospital - East for
treatment.  Case closed....

Location: PARKING LOT A - VERBAL ALTERCATION
Dispo: Officers responded to a verbal altercation at the listed location.  Upon arrival, officers found
a Male and a Female subject arguing over custody of a juvenile.  Officer's spoke to both subjects and
an agreement was reached that the juvenile would spend the night with the mother.   The Male subject
then left the campus.  The Female subject completed the paperwork for a Domestic Violence Emergency
Protection Order and Summons, and a Domestic Violence Petition/Motion.  The EPO was later served
to the Male subject with permission of the on-call judge.  Case closed....

no evidence of smoke or fire.  Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was caused by a
faulty smoke detector.  The alarm was re-set and the scene cleared at 11:55pm.   Case closed....

Dispo: NO FIRE.  Fire Alarm received from the listed location.  The Central Campbell County Fire
Department responded and along with DPS and NKU Physical Plant personnel checked the area
finding no evidence of smoke or fire.  Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was caused
by a faulty smoke detector.  It was determined that this was the same detector that had activated last
evening. (See Report #010407).  NKU Electricians were notified to check the system and make
necessary repairs.  The scene was cleared and the building re-opened for occupancy at 09:15am.

Location: STEELY LIBRARY - FOURTH FLOOR - COMPLAINT RECEIVED
Dispo: Male Faculty member reported to the Assistant Dean a problem that had occurred with one
of his students.  The complainant stated that the professor had kicked the student out of class for
cheating.  The professor stated to the Assistant Dean that he felt scared by the actions of the student
following his removal from class.  The professor and the student had left the campus before the complaint
was reported.  The complainant was advised to notify DPS should the student return to the area without
having business in the area.  A copy of this report will be forwarded to the Dean of Students Office for
any further disciplinary action.  Case closed....

Location: UNIVERSITY CENTER - GROUND FLOOR - SMOKE-Smoke-Odor Of Smoke None
Visible
Dispo: Male complainant reported an odor of smoke. He stated that there was no smoke visible or sign
of a fire. NKU Physical Plant and DPS responded to the scene and checked the area, negative results.
The odor of smoke still was present.  Further investigation determined that the smoke odor was emanating
from Administration Center, Second (2nd) Floor.  A check of this area discovered that the smoke odor was
a result of burnt popcorn in a microwave oven located in that area.  The incident occurred approximately
two (2) hours earlier.  Since there was NO Fire, a response by the fire department was not necessary.
No Fire or Smoke alarms activated from the area.  A copy of the report will be forwarded to NKU Physical
Plant. The incident remains open....

Dispo: NO FIRE.  Smoke alarm received via the ESUSA Computer from the listed locations.  No smoke
or fire was visible.  N.K.U. Power Plant personnel were notified and and advised that everything was
showing as normal in the area.  The Fire Department was not dispatched.  Power Plant responded and
checked the area and could not find a cause for the alarm.  The cause of the alarm was an apparent
system malfunction.  Case closed....

no evidence of smoke or fire.  Upon investigation, it was determined that the alarm was caused by a system
malfunction.  NKU Power Plant had been working on the system earlier in the day.   The alarm was re-set,
building cleared for re-occupancy and the scene cleared at 8:36pm.  Case closed....

Location: B-E-P BUILDING - SAFETY HAZARD-Power Outage
Dispo: University Employee reported that lights were not working at the listed location.   Upon
Investigation, Officers observed that lights were out in the stairwells, elevators and exit signs.  Further
investigation discovered that the Fire Alarm System also was not working.  The Central Campbell
County Fire Department was advised and stated that the building could not be occupied without a working
Fire Alarm System.  The building was secured and patrolled to prevent unauthorized entry.  N.K.U.
Electricians were notified of the situation.  At 06:45am the building was re-opened for occupancy,
following completed repairs to the lighting and Fire Alarm Systems.  Case closed....

NO FIRE.  Smoke alarm activated at the listed location.  Upon arrival responding officers discovered
that the alarm was caused by Food Service employees cleaning the grill.  The Central Campbell County
Fire Department responded and checked the area and found no other possible cause for the alarm.  The
building was cleared for occupancy at 2:38pm.  Case closed....
