Upon arrival, the area was checked with no evidence of a fire being found. Upon investigation, it was determined that smoke from plumbing work (grinding) being conducted activated a smoke detector. At 8:53am the building was cleared for re-occupancy. The scene was cleared at 8:55am. The State Fire Marshal's Office was notified, via e-mail.

Summary: Subject advised that people were stuck in an elevator and were also smelling smoke at this location. The Central Campbell County Fire Department responded and along with NKU DPS and Physical Plant personnel checked the area finding no fire but an odor of smoke was present. Responding personnel stated that no fire alarms were activated in the building and had not been evacuated. Upon investigation, it was determined that the elevator's mechanical equipment may have overheated causing the smoke. Subjects did exit the elevator during this time. Physical Plant personnel shut-down the elevator until the elevator company could respond for repairs. The State Fire Marshal's Office was notified, via e-mail.
