Did you know: that 230 million tons of waste is sent to the landfill each year? This amounts to about 4 lbs of

waste per person per day!

The following actions will help to divert materials from landfills, reducing waste disposal costs while saving land

for more desirable uses (such as parks!) and protecting water sources from landfill seepage:

Reduce (Prevent waste in the first place)

  • Buy in bulk to reduce packaging.

  • Circulate a document instead of making copies for everyone.

  • Avoid disposable products (napkins, razors, plastic cups).

  • Use email instead of written messages.

  • Buy longer-lasting, low energy light bulbs.

  • Use a home composter for organic waste.

  • Cancel junk mail. More...

Reuse (Make the things you use every day go further)

  • Make the things you use every day go further.

  • Take reusable bags (cloth or plastic) when you go shopping.

  • Use scrap paper for notes and messages.

  • Reuse glass jars for storage.

  • Refill used printer cartridges.
