Employee
Surplus Computer Purchase Program

  1. Fill out an  Employee Surplus Computer Purchase Request Form and a Surplus Property Transfer Form. Be sure that your chair, department head, or unit administrator has signed the "Transferring Department Signature" line on the Surplus Property Transfer Form, this authorizes you and your computer to participate in this program.
  2. Bring the Employee Surplus Computer Purchase Request Form to the Purchasing Department, LAC 617, but keep the Surplus Property Transfer Form with the computer.
  3. Label the PC including all accessories (i.e., mouse, keyboard, monitor if CRT is available, speakers if available) w/ your name, NKU asset tag #, and NKU phone #.

PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE ASSET TAGS FROM COMPUTERS

    PLEASE NOTE:
IF YOUR MONITOR IS A FLAT PANEL IT WILL NOT BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR PC PURCHASE, THE UNIVERSITY IS RETAINING ALL FLAT PANEL MONITORS TO BE USED IN OTHER AREAS THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS.   PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU NEED A MONITOR, AS WE MAY BE ABLE TO FIND ONE FOR YOU.

  4. The computer will be picked up and taken to the Surplus Recycling Center
  5. You will be notified when your computer is ready for purchase
  6. Pick up your payment slip in the Purchasing Department, pay for your computer in the Bursar and return your receipt to Purchasing
  7. You can then go to Mail/Distribution Services and claim your computer

When an individual receives a replacement PC or MAC, the computer that is declared surplus by the department may be purchased by the individual that received the new computer.  The computer that is declared surplus by the department head does not necessarily have to be the unit that came off that employee's desk.  The employee who had their unit replaced may buy the unit, declared as surplus, at the "buy-it-now" price before the unit is sent to surplus property for auction.  Units not purchased by the employees will be added to the group of computers that can be purchased or bid upon by the general public.

General Public (Including NKU employees)

We will establish a minimum bid price, as determined by previous surplus property sales, and a "buy-it-now" price.  These sales will be posted on our website and may be purchased at the "buy-it-now" price or bid upon.  However, if all computers are sold at the "buy-it-now" price, no bids will be considered.

At the "buy-it-now" price, the PC will be sold on a first come first served basis.  Any remaining computers left in the sale will then be sold to the highest bidder.

Computers from either of the above programs will have all software and files removed from the hard drive before being sold.  This protects the university from violation of site licenses, and helps the university comply with many state and federal regulations regarding privacy and confidential information.  Only the operating system that originally came with the computer will then be reinstalled. (i.e., Windows 98, Windows 2000, etc.)  Other software programs will have to be purchased by the user, in some cases this software can be purchased through our Microsoft Campus Agreement.

Individuals purchasing PC's under either program will be required to take the CRT monitor if available, keyboard, mouse, speakers if available, and anything else that came with the original unit.  This will eliminate problems associated with disposing of monitors ourselves.
