First Friday was a Friday afternoon reception and open discussion of possible Quality Enhancement Plan topics sponsored by the Office of the Vice Provost. All NKU faculty and staff were invited.
It was held in the university ballroom and offered attendees an opportunity to kick back, relax, and enjoy some beverages and snacks while learning about current QEP suggestions and chatting with colleagues at the end of the first week of spring semester classes.
Its primary purposes were to generate excitement for the QEP process, introduce the first round of ideas submitted as possible topics for NKU's QEP, and encourage submission of additional QEP topics.
Previously proposed QEP topics were posted on the walls. Flip charts were available for writing and posting new topics, and over-sized Post-It Notes were provided for adding comments, questions, or suggested changes.
Two Power Point presentations ran continuously. One explained the SACS's QEP requirements, and the other listed examples of QEPs being implemented at other institutions.
An intentionally casual and relaxed atmosphere and no formal speeches allowed easy mixing and mingling and promoted lively discussion as people came and went throughout the afternoon.
The highlight of the event was the world premiere of The Ballad of SACS Reaffirmation, a song parody performed by Vice Provost Pat Moynahan and SACS Coordinator Michael Turney.
